Dana Carvey: Church Lady Drum Solo

I'm watching Saturday Night Live's Special: The Best of Dana Carvey and we came across a character he played called "Church Lady." He's most well known, of course, as Garth in Wayne's World with Mike Meyers. Born in 1955, he's able to do over 64 impersonations, including: Bob Dylan, George W. Bush, Paul McCartney, but the characters he creates are a wonder of their own...

I highly recommend that you watch The Best of Dana Carvey because it's fucking hilarious.

Now, the video's a bit shotty, but this "Church Lady," performs with Willie Nelson and Danny DeVito, and busts out a badass drum solo. This is who will be wailing:

Tibetan Sand Mandala

I was in my Art History class and my teacher showed us this video called, "Mandala: World of the Mystic Circle." Yes, the name sounds 'hippy-dippy,' but the context of the film was very interesting. They showed an exclusive revealing process of how Tibetan monks made these transient sand mandalas. It's an incredible process, extremely intricate and aesthetically astounding.

Some of the speakers are pretty unbearable to listen to, but through this video I actually found out that Uma Thurman's father, Robert A.F. Thurman, is an author, scholar, and former Tibetan Buddhist monk, he is also the Professor of Indo-Tibetan Buddhist Studies at Columbia University. Apparently, he is also close friends with the Dalai Lama... it did seem as if his left eye was unmoving and unblinking. It just so happens that he lost it in a jack lifting accident in 1961 and has an ocular prosthetic. A pretty badass man, I must say.

The monks make these mandalas with small funnel shaped tubes that are tapped with another weighted object to stream the sand accurately into place. It is an interesting thought, but after they are finished with it, after working on it for days, they brush all of it up, and let it flow back into a body of water. Think about it.

Regardless, here is a short clip of these Tibetan monks creating this crazy mandala:

Camille.

Camille Dalmais is known in the music world, simply as Camille. She was born in Paris, France in 1978 and is well-versed in ballet, acting, singing, and is fluent in English. She is strange and this video is awesome. It is called "Ta Douleur," which translates to "Her Pain."

the progress of humanity from 1810 to 2009.

First of all... I love this Swedish man. His name is Hans Rosling, he is an academic, medical doctor, and statistician. This video shows how we as an entire society have become healthier and wealthier since the 19th century through to to the 21st.

If you're interested in more of his work, then look into this website, TED, which is also awesome for other informative and unique speeches into the development of humanity.

Andy Denzler: Visual Artist

I was excavating through the Chelsea galleries today and I found these "momentary motion paintings" by the artist, Andy Denzler. He is also a sculptor, I do not find them as interesting, however, the relation between the style is captured quite well. The way he manages to represent the figure is an impressive gesture of strokes and blurs that form a solid entity. His choice in composition embodies that of isolation and fleeting moments, his works resemble a movie frame, shifting in and out of a scene, and the roll runs out...

I have chosen five paintings that I, personally, enjoy:

I know what you are, 2009

Oil on Canvas
80 x 100 cm

 No Mans Land #III, 2010
Oil on canvas
150 x 200 cm

Body & Faces Study 4, 2010

Oil on cardboard
46.7 x 36.7 cm

 Detached, 2010
Oil on canvas
70 x 70 cm

Dust to Dust, 2009

Oil on canvas
100 x 70 cm

Good morning... ladies and gents.

Although it is 12:58, there is good reason for me greeting "good morning" to you all...

I have just woken up after sleeping on my own couch last night from a long existential conversation with one of my greatest and best friends, Sir Campbell. It was a conversation that carried from the afternoon into the early hours of the morning. I think many things were accomplished last night, although there was no physical proactive action taken, there were certainly a variety of topics, laughter, and emotion grounded and mixed like a mother fuckin' margarita.
Notions upon notions, synaptic transmission of thoughts between the senses, a trade of experience and reflection.Whether it is talking about the reminiscent fucked up hierarchy high school years or listening to a transient auditory experience, or even discussing the prospect of getting a pet turtle... that is all life after death would be for me.

Everything seems to be changing. Everywhere. But, we have each other, the people of the world. Times may be perceived as irreversible in the depths, we just must appreciate the horrors in life as well as the most infinitesimal beauties that are present to us every fucking day.

I think I have been watching a good amount of Eastbound & Down. And on that note, here is a painting and a little villanelle for your thoughts...

…our happiest days slowly began to turn into   d    u      s      t

“our happiest days slowly began to turn into dust.”
and the birds lay silent at the edge of the pond.
each moment, waltzed away with the gust.

what we have here, is a definite must.
fly, to the stretching sky and expand to bond,
“our happiest days slowly began to turn into dust.”

genuine. honesty. there are so few.
keep me from the lucid, dwelling past.
every moment, waltzed away with the gust.

night to dusk, day to dawn cowering from colors,
who are conscious of what has to last.
“our happiest days slowly began to turn into dust.”

those who know how it’s done, live through,
construed beyond the deafening contrast.
every moment, away, waltzed with the gust.

feel how you feel and think as you must.
this tale can be short, tall, and somewhat fond.
“our happiest days slowly began to turn into dust”
each moment, waltzed away with the gust
